Lions Youth Forum 2025: Social and Energy Transformation in a Former Heavy Industry Region
The International Youth Forum 2025 will explore the transformation of energy-intensive industries like coal mining and steel production into climate-neutral sectors. Focused on sustainability, the forum will cover topics such as hydrogen research, digital transformation, climate action, and the transition to greener cities.
The Rhein-Ruhr region, once known for high unemployment and industrial challenges, is now reinventing itself. With over 15 million residents, the region offers a unique example of overcoming the negative effects of industrialization, including health issues and poor working conditions, through sustainability and innovation.
Germany is making significant progress toward the UN’s 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but there's still work to be done in areas like Clean Energy, Climate Action, and Sustainable Cities. The Rhine-Ruhr region's transformation is a model for many countries facing similar challenges due to climate change.
To Do for Participants: As part of the forum, students will present on their countries' industries, social security systems, and labor laws, linking these topics to the SDGs like Gender Equality,
Decent Work, and Climate Action.
Note: On the weekend of 9th/10th August 2025, students will switch accommodations as part of the program’s agenda.
The international Lions Youth Forum 2025 is sponsored by the Lions Foundation Germany and the districts 111-RN, 111-RS, 111-WL and 111-WR.
